Weaning ceremony お食い初め

Simon became 100 days old on Friday.

We have an custom to conduct a ceremony on the on the 100th days after birth.
(Some regions may do this on the 110th-120th day.)

The name of this the ceremony differs from region by region, too.

★Example
Okuizome(first eating)
Momoka iwai (100th day celebration)
Hashi Hajime(first chopsticks)
Hashi Soroe (chopsticks placing)
Hashi Tate (chopsticks standing)
Hagatame (tooth hardening meal) etc.

It is performed in hopes that the child would never have to worry about food.
The baby only pretends to eat the food in this ceremony and actual weaning starts around 5 or 6 months after birth, depending on individual baby in Japan.

Usually, we prepare red rice (rice steamed with read beans), soup, three kinds of seasonal dishes and a bream(special fish for celebration). Small stones shall be placed, hoping baby's teeth becomes strong.

I eat the red rice and the fish every year on New Years Day.
However, it was the first time for me to make them because it was always my mother's task!

What's going on?

New food!

I want to eat!

We forgot to place the stones which we took from Kameido shrine :p
あ、小石置くのを忘れた(笑)
