Doll's Festival - 3rd of March (雛祭り)

Families with girls celebrate 3rd of March as a day to wish for their growth and happiness. This family event originally began in medieval times and is also referred to as the Doll's Festival because families of girls display a set of dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, their servants, miniature furniture, and so forth, on a five or seven-tiered stand. Ancient people transferred their sins onto the dolls and threw them in rivers.

I have the big and fine doll set at my grand mather(farmor)'s house which I got from my grand father (morfar) in Kagoshima when I was born. Sadly, it was too big to keep in my small apartment.

People says the dolls should be put away after March 3, otherwise the girl bedcomes late bride. My families were lazy and didn't put them away soon every year :p

お雛さんは早く片付けないと婚期が遅くなると言われますが、そういえばうちは毎年片付けが遅れていたなぁと思いつつ・・・。

Dolls set like mine

I made Chirashi-zushi (a kind of sushi) etc. for celebration.
ハマグリが高かったので、アサリのお吸い物に、菜の花のからし和えは、からしがなかったのでわさび和えになってしまいました(笑)

  1. I remembered the 3.of march! Years ago,I think when Liva was born in 2006, your parents send us 2 "clay bell dolls",and at this time of year, I find them, and put them on a table.
Delicious sushi! Did Simon sleep, or was Bjørn walking about with him while you were cooking?

  2. Yes, I also remember the clay bell dolls!

While I was cooking, Bjørn walked around with him and Simon fell asleep peacefully. It seems Danish songs and/or Bjørn voice works well.

But at the moment we started to eat, Simon began crying for milk as usual!

  3. I think all babies are like that. I always ate cold food. But I remember that when Liva got a little bit bigger we has a chai that could stand on the table. It seemed like she was content with watching us:)
